Aqua Tofana

Following a horrific betrayal, Girolama Spera and her associates await their judgement in a jail cell in Renaissance Italy. Their crime? Selling an almost undetectable poison known as “Aqua Tofana” to women in need. Are they cold-blooded murderers or saviors of countless battered wives? Depends on who you ask. As the city’s leaders squabble over the lives and lies of the world’s most prolific poisoning ring, Girolama is forced to reckon with he role in their downfall - one that seems more ultimate with each passing second.

Emma Kessler

Emma Kessler (she/her) is an actress and playwright from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her topics of interest include history, psychology, and folklore. She currently studies psychology and theatre arts at the University of Minnesota. This is her second play in her four part series at Picnic Basket Theatre!

About the Director:
Alex Church

Alex (he/him) is a Minneapolis-based director, writer, producer, and performer who loves the dark and stormy. He’s worked with companies like the Guthrie, Mixed Blood, What’s Next Productions, Strike Theater, Bryant Lake Bowl, and Act up Theatre in everything from art to admin. He loves politics, comedy, and inspiring change.
